SMS has carried business messaging for decades, but it has limits: a phone number instead of your name, plain text and links people hesitate to tap. RCS messaging in GoHighLevel brings branded, interactive messages into the phone's built-in messaging app: your business name and logo, images, rich cards and tappable buttons, with no app for the customer to install. This guide explains how it works, how to get set up and where to start.

Rich Communication Services (RCS) is a modern messaging standard supported by native messaging apps on many Android and iOS devices. For businesses, RCS adds:
Branded sender identity: your business name instead of a phone number in supported inboxes
Rich media: images and rich layouts
Interactive elements: tappable action buttons and cards
Delivery signals: more detail on whether messages arrive and are read
In HighLevel, RCS sits alongside your existing SMS setup. HighLevel detects whether a recipient can receive RCS and routes accordingly. When they cannot, and fallback is enabled, the message goes as SMS instead. HighLevel is rolling RCS out in waves, so availability depends on your account and region.
Request activation. Contact HighLevel Support to enable RCS on your account.
Prepare your sender profile. You will need your business name, logo, a support email or phone number, business address and a clear opt-in process. Use a sender name that matches your business and website exactly.
Carrier approval. HighLevel Support submits your sender profile for approval.
Enable SMS fallback. Go to Settings → Messaging → RCS → Fallback and turn on fallback to SMS.
HighLevel has added Send RCS and RCS Interactive Message workflow actions, initially in a private beta, letting you branch a workflow based on which button a customer taps. HighLevel planned wider availability from the end of Q3 2026, so check whether the actions appear in your account. See the changelog entry.
Want to be among the first in your market using RCS? Book a free audit call and we will plan your rollout.Best first use cases
Use case | Why RCS helps |
|---|---|
Appointment confirmations | Confirm and Reschedule buttons instead of reply codes |
Review requests | A branded message with a single "Leave a review" button |
Product or service promotions | An image card that shows the offer |
Order and delivery updates | Branded sender builds trust and reduces scam concerns |
Quote follow-up | A card with the quote summary and a "Book a call" button |
Not every recipient can receive RCS, and settings on the recipient's phone affect the experience. Write every message so it still makes sense as plain SMS: include the business name, a short text version of the offer and a link that works without buttons.
RCS business messaging has its own sender verification, and your SMS fallback still runs over registered 10DLC or toll-free numbers. Keep opt-in consent, HELP and STOP handling and content rules the same as for SMS. See 10DLC vs toll-free vs short code.
Does RCS replace SMS in GoHighLevel? No. It runs alongside SMS, with SMS fallback for recipients who cannot receive RCS.
Do customers need to install an app? No. RCS works in supported native messaging apps.
Is RCS available in every account? HighLevel is rolling it out in waves; contact HighLevel Support to request activation.
Do I still need A2P registration? Yes, for the SMS fallback and any SMS you send.
